The chair of the hospital risk committee determined there was a recurring issue with poor conformance to the robust hospital fluid guidelines in subspecialty pediatric patients. It was highlighted that good guidelines on their own weren’t working to ensure children were managed correctly. An initial survey assessed the accessibility and accuracy of clinical guidelines used by junior doctors in a childrens' hospital.
Following the analysis of survey results a new information platform for the management and delivery of clinical guidelines was developed using the Quris platform. Existing guidelines were loaded into the system and a new review alerting mechanism was established to ensure guidelines users knew whether a guideline was out of date or not.
Access to the guidelines was improved through use via smart phones, as well as traditional desktop computers. Access is possible even when there is no data connection from the device. Updates to the guidelines happen automatically.
